Silent League, Lone Pine, Blind River Scare Barfly, Cardiff.
Last time we’d seen Lone Pine at Barfly they were headlining back in January. Tonight the band put on a more sedate and laid back set than they have for a while and it seemed to work. Highlight was a terrific version of Lady In The Hay with some top flamenco style guitar playing from Steve. Have a look at a snippet of this on YouTube here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JEzcV3FsZs
First time we’d seen Blind River Scare without Debbie their violinist (as she was ill). The situation seemed to push the band into stepping up a gear and they become a lot more rockier than we have become accustomed. Taking the opportunity to slot a new upbeat song into the set alongside Killing Time, Something For The Pain and the eponymous Blind River Scare it was a shame they had to play so early due to Silent League bringing their own support act unannounced.. Check out the latest tracks on MySpace www.myspace.com/blindriverscare.
Saw Silent League when they played here nearly 3 years ago to promote the excellent The Orchestra Sadly Refused album. That night there were so many people on stage the feedback and technical difficulties made it a bit of a disaster. Tonight there are just a many people on stage and they overcome the technical problems early on (including losing power to the guitar pedals) but unfortunately the newer tracks just don’t cut it in the quality steaks. Far too Prog and pseudo-experimental for old punk rockers like us and we hit the mean streets of Cardiff before the set was over. See how they looked on YouTube here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDrVoFdbf3A
