First up were new local band Jimi Alexander & The Satellites. Jim has a deeply soulful voice which when joined by Cello, Bass and intelligent meandering and understated lead guitar something very special happens. Not a drum in site and they didn’t need one. Excellent prospect for the future if tonight is anything to go by.
Playing their first gig in Cardiff for a while, and their first headlining show at Barfly, the mighty Lone Pine hit the stage with grins a mile wide. With new keyboard player injured it was as a four piece the band ploughed through a selection of old and new tunes. Throwing a tambourine into the crowd during I Know Myself for additional percussion the majority were swinging their hips to the greatest songs the Stones never got around to writing. With Dan incorporating a reggae ending into an extended Lady in the Hay to celebrate his upcoming Jamaican holiday, the band ended with a storming version of Good for Nothin’ which you can view here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=blebDVTK00Q
