SINGLE OF THE MONTH

cajdp7

Cajun Dance Party - Amylase (XL)
Second single from one of the hottest bands in the UK and they deserve the hype. Four boys and a girl making simple guitar-pop as it should be. Like an unpretentious Kooks or very young Smiths, they will be massive in 2008. You heard it here first (well, fairly early anyhow...)

BEST OF THE REST THIS  MONTH

iLiKETRAiNS - The Deception (Beggars Banquet)
The iLiKETRAiNS boys are obviously immensely talented but the insistence to make every record about a British historical figure is becoming a bit wearing. The guitars swoop and soar as you would expect but its all a bit too formulaic now. Hopefully the next single will break them from the rut they seem to be in.... must do better (and less history homework)

The Shins - Turn On Me (Transgressive)
Third single from Wincing The Night Away. it starts sounding like the intro to And Then He Kissed Me before turning into the expected Shins guitar pop-rock with acrobatic lyrics. Too clever by half. Maybe if they dumbed down they could have a hit?

Editors - An End Has A Start (Kitchenware)
Second single from the latest album and powerful it is too being the title track. Another guitar led epic that all the football TV shows will use as background music! As with all editors singles, the B Side, Open Up is as good as any album track.
